From high plain to wooded valleys this area of Andalucia is an ideal destination for any walker no matter what their capabilities are. Whether you are staying at Casa Eras or Chite we offer maps, guides and invaluable local knowledge. The following guides are designed to wet your appetite.

I have put these maps and guides together to help you enjoy this area of Spain as much as I do.
Many of the paths and tracks do not appear on maps or guides but have been discovered whilst out walking with friends. I have tried not to trespass, but many of the tracks used do cross private land. I have never encountered any problems, please remember that the farmer makes his living off this land.
Any tracks with a gate or chain across can generally be assumed to be private and you should not go on the land.
Please do not drop cigarettes or light fires,
All the directions for the walks start at the cross roads in Talara (Lecrin)
The times given are for an easy walking pace and include short breaks,
Always take plenty of water with you, and in the summer try not to be walking between 12 and 4pm. It's much better to be in a bar with some shade.
In the winter take a warm jumper with you particularly if your intended route is high, conditions can change quickly. It can snow from September to May on the high peaks so don't attempt them if there is any cloud about,
I have tried to make sure that the information and maps are accurate but paths and access are continually changing. P;ease contact me if you want maps to go with the guides. The information enclosed is freely given and I take no responsibility if things go wrong.
If you have any suggestions or alterations please contact me at stuart@holidaysingranada.co.uk
Enjoy the walks

Monachil Gorge Walk *****

An easy walk in a steep sided river gorge, time about 3 hours.
The walk crosses the river 3 times by suspended rope bridges (well constructed but can swing in the middle). You also have to shuffle on your bum in a couple of places.
The walk is one of the best in the area with spectacular views. You can award it more stars if you want.

Melegis Castle ***

An easy walk in a fertile valley among the orange groves. Extensive views of the Sierra Nevada mountains from the castle. Time about 3 hours. Not recommended after heavy rain due to long detour when leaving Melegis. (You will have another 360 days when you can do the walk)

Ermita Cristo del Zapatato ***

A short strenuous walk to the small white chapel above Pinos Del Valle, high above the lake at Beznar. The walk is on a well graded zig zag footpath in pine trees and offers unparalled views of the Lecrin Valley. Time taken about 2 hours. Best time to do it; late afternoon or early evening depending on daylight in the summer, any time in the winter.

A short walk, of about 3 hours, on well constructed tracks and paths with about 200 meters of ascent. The walk goes through farm land passing a large stables with an unusual breed of black horses, before climbing to the watch tower at Pica Lopera. The 360 degree panoramic views are spectacular for the little effort involved in reaching the point. We have seen more wild life on this walk than anywhere else in the area. From eagles to wild boar, stags, and mountain goats. The walk is highly recommended .
